PRESTIGIOUS GALA TO HONOUR SCIENCE JOURNALISTS

Date: 28th June

Time: 19:00-21:45

Venue: Sheraton Hotel

In 2000, Siemens Southern Africa launched a Pan-African journalism awards initiative under the banner "Siemens Profile Awards". The primary objective of the Profile Awards are to recognize and reward those writers and broadcasters who effectively report on science and technology on the continent, in order to demystify these vitally important subjects that have the potential to impact massively on the lives of all Africa's people.

Since the launch, the Profile Awards has gained impressive momentum over the years and continues to rally support from key stakeholders in the media and the science and technology sector. The Profile Awards are supported by the department of Science and Technology, which believes recognizing Science journalists will go a long way in encouraging excellence in reporting as well as ensuring that science and technology journalism moves from the periphery of the news agenda into the mainstream, where it belongs.

The Profile Awards Gala Event is scheduled to take place on the evening of 28 June 2011 and the Honorable Minister of Science and Technology Ms Naledi Pandor who is also the patron of the programme, will deliver a key note address. The event is aimed not only at honouring those media workers who have been chosen as winners in the eight competition categories by our highly respected judging panel, but also at providing them the opportunity to increase their networks and enhance their knowledge in these fields.

Although the language of interaction within the programme is English, the continent’s diversity is accommodated by the Profile Awards, with entries accepted in Arabic, English, French and Portuguese.

Siemens has regional offices across the continent and is well placed to offer support and handle any queries related to the Profile Awards programme.
