The Anti Doping Lab Qatar facility will be the first anti-doping laboratory to be established in West Asia, and the second to be established in the entire Middle East region. Anti Doping Lab Qatar (ADLQ) is behind the new facility coming up in Doha’s Aspire Zone. It will offer anti-doping test and conduct research into the use of prohibited substances, test-development, and other issues on drug use in sports, said a top official.

In recent months, Mada has also increased its efforts in the areas of Research and Development, particularly in the Area of Arabic language speaking solutions. By working with Assistive Technology manufacturers, Mada provides support and impetus for the development of a greater number of localized technologies. Currently, Mada is working with over a dozen companies, and will soon begin launching Arabized Assistive Technologies from its resource center in Doha.

About : Ras Laffan Industrial City is an industrial hub located 80 kilometers (50 mi) north of Doha, Qatar. It is administrated by Qatar Petroleum. Ras Laffan Industrial City is the Qatar's main site for production of liquefied natural gas and gas-to-liquid. It hosts among others ORYX GTL and Pearl GTL plants, Qatargas and RasGasLNG plants, the Dolphin gas processing plant, the Laffan Refinery, and an integrated water and power plant. Ras Laffan Port is considered one of the largest LNG export facilities in the world.

About : As a delegate to the World Conference of Science Journalists 2011, QF is offering you the chance to explore its Education, Science and Research and Community Development work through three, very different tours.

Each tour offered to you on Tuesday 28th and Wednesday 29th June, will focus on one particular center:

  • Weill Cornell Medical Center in Qatar – Tour 2
  • Texas A&M at Qatar – Tour 3

Tour 1: Al Shaqab

Al Shaqab is QF’s visionary equestrian center, home to the legendary equestrian skills of Qatar. On this tour, you will get a chance to see some of the world-class facilities as well as the hundreds of Arabian horses it houses. Al Shaqab provides multiple performance arenas for international show jumping and dressage competitions, a full-service riding academy and equestrian club, and an endurance training center. It is now the region's leading equine education resource center and you will find how innovative, educational and competitive Al Shaqab is. It boasts the highest standards in the breeding and showing of Arabian horses, as well as the region's most advanced veterinary clinic, hospital and research facilities and a state-of-the-art center for Al Shaqab's world-renowned Arabian breeding program. Take a walk through some of Al Shaqab’s 900,000 square meters and see for yourself how this state-of-the-art center combines with the rich tradition of Arabian horses.

Tour 2: Weill Cornell Medical Center in Qatar (WCMC-Q)

WCMC-Q is the first medical school in Qatar and a pioneer of coeducation at university level. Established in 2001 as a partnership between Cornell University and Qatar Foundation, it is part of Weill Cornell Medical College in New York and shares its mission of dedication to excellence in education, patient care and research. On this tour you will be able to walk around some of its 6000 square meters dedicated to teaching and research laboratories and find out about current, ground-breaking projects. With the help of QF, WCMC-Q is developing core laboratory capabilities, including genomics and proteomics cores, computational biology and biostatistics core and a vivarium – some of which you will get to see.

Tour 3: Texas A&M at Qatar (TAMUQ)

TAMUQ offers world-renowned engineering undergraduate programs with degrees in Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical and Petroleum Engineering. On this tour you will be able to walk through the electrical engineering, chemical engineering and mechanical laboratories and learn about projects including wireless research and the Qatar Sustainable Water and Energy Utilization Initiative. From the tour you will also understand TAMUQ’s mission to generate new knowledge by conducting research and disseminating results as well as serving the needs of Qatar and the region through broad expertise.
